Heath Ledger found dead at age 28

The 28-year-old, Academy Award- nominated actor, Heath Ledger, was found Tuesday Jan. 22, dead in his Soho apartment of what is believed to be a drug overdose, the New York Police Department said.

Paul Browne, police spokesman, said that Ledger was discovered by his housekeeper naked and unresponsive at the foot of his bed when she had enter the apartment to wake him for a masseuse appointment. Browne also said that pills had been found near the Ledger’s body though they had not been scattered around. Sleeping pills and prescription medications were among the pills found.

“This is being looked at as a possible overdose, but that is not confirmed yet,” he said.

Browne made it clear that the cause of the actor’s death was not yet known and that the cause would be determined by the medical examiner.
